“Insecure” Showrunner Prentice Penny Explains Why The Series Won’t Get 1-Hour Long Episodes

“Insecure” fans were forced to say goodbye to their viewers for their third season finale on Sunday. As fans await for the fourth season, they’re demanding some things change within the upcoming season.

For the past three seasons, HBO has ordered eight 30-minute episodes, but fans are craving more. The #InsecureHive are challenging the series executives to extend the episode time to an hour and to have more episodes within a season.

“Insecure”’s showrunner, Prentice Penny, is giving details about why these fans request may or may not be met. In a tweet with an equipped GIF Penny stated,

Issa, along with the show’s co-stars Lisa Joyce, Natasha Rothwell, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, showrunner/ep Prentice Penny, and executive producer Melina Matsoukas.

It’s not that we don’t want to give y’all what you want but it takes 10 months to make a season. Adding more episodes and making them longer will actually take MORE time to get to you. That’s an additional 4 months to make inbetween breaking stories, filming and editing.

He even explained the process in how he and co-creator Issa Rae, develop the show,

We write and break stories for 4 1/2 months. Then we film for 3. Then we edit and post the show for 2 1/2 months.

It looks like fans might just have to settle with another eight 30-minute episodes for the fourth season.
