Missy Elliott First Female Rapper Nominated For 2019 Songwriters Hall Of Fame
Missy Elliott was recently selected for the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame, a first for the female rappers who have come before her. To qualify – and be inducted – a songwriter or performer must have written hit songs for at least 20 years; Elliott, who arrived in the music industry with hit maker Timbaland, released her first studio album “Supa Dupa Fly,” which debut at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 200 charts, in 1997, and has since written hits for Whitney Houston, Nicole Wray, SWV, and Beyoncé.
Elliott shared in the praise via a tweet on Wednesday (Nov. 7th),
i am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers. Congratulations to all of them also.

Joining her on the list of nominees include “GTFO” singer Mariah Carey, and writer Dallas Austin, who’s written for Boyz II Men, Monica, and TLC. After votes are tallied, six songwriters will be officially inducted at the Hall’s 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York on June 13, 2019. If inducted, Elliott will follow behind the talents of Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri.
Congrats Missy!
