Tidal Under Investigation For Allegedly Forging Streaming Numbers & Subscribers
Tidal is being investigated by Norwegian authority (Økokrim) of economic and environmental crimes under claims the streaming service has forged streaming numbers and their subscribers. In 2018, the service was accused of tampering streaming numbers for Beyonce’s “Lemonade” and Kanye West’s “Life of Pablo” and for forking out inflated royalties to artist’s labels.
Økokrim’s chief public prosecutor, Elisabeth Harbo-Lervik, confirmed the investigation had been launched late last year. The authorities aim to prove or disprove under the suspicion of streaming manipulation within the streaming service.
Tidal’s lawyer Fredrik Berg released a statement about the investigation,
TIDAL is at this time not a suspect nor has there been filed charges. We have an ongoing dialogue with Økokrim. It would not be right to share the contents of this discussion with the press.
Tidal’s founding artist include Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Kanye West, J Cole, Jack White, J Cole, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Jason Aldean, Madonna and Deadmau5.
