Michelle Obama Slams Donald Trump ‘We Are Living With Divorced Dad’
Former FLOTUS Michelle Obama seemed to take a couple of jabs at President Donald Trump. During an interview with Stephen Colbert in London’s O2 Arena, Obama spoke candidly on the current state of the nation. She’s currently in Europe promoting her best-seller Becoming. While she didn’t say Trump’s name directly, she shared her thoughts on the leadership of the U.S.
“We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled. Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”

She added that something like being the leader of the free world doesn’t necessarily change you as a person, but can reveal what’s been truly inside all along.
“It is like swimming in the ocean with great waves. If you are not a great swimmer, you are not going to learn in the middle of the tidal wave. You are going to resort to your kicking and drowning and what you knew how to do in the pool.”
As for taking in the news and other avenues, Obama said that she only watches in doses.
“I only let some of that stuff into my world when I’m ready. You can’t have a steady diet of fear and frustration coming in.”
Still, she said she’s hopeful despite the U.S. being in a “dark chapter” and pointed out to the audience of 15,000 that America voted her husband, Barack Obama, into office not once but twice.
“I have to remind people that Barack Obama was elected twice in the United States. That really did happen. That wasn’t make-believe. The country actually did accomplish it, and half the people who voted in the last election, if they could have, they would have voted for him for a third term.”
“We have to remember that what is happening today is true, but what happened before was also true… That should give us some solace at some level. “Yeah, we’re in a low, but we’ve been lower… We’ve had tougher times with more to fear. We’ve lived through slavery and the Holocaust and segregation and we’ve always come out on the other end, better and stronger.”
She also had a message for those who aren’t happy with Trump’s leadership.
“We have to pay attention and we have to be engaged and we can’t take our rights and liberties for granted. Because if we don’t vote, somebody will.”
