Will Smith & Queen Latifah To Produce Hip-Hop Version Of Romeo & Juliet For Netflix
Can you say dynamic duo? Will Smith and Queen Latifah are teaming up for what could become the most highly-anticipated upcoming project on Netflix. Solvan “Slick” Naim is also slated to direct.
The project is a modern version of William Shakespeare’s legendary love story that will take in place in New York. Juliet will appear as a waitress that hails from Brooklyn as Romeo will serve as a future musician whose family is wealthy. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they’ll definitely find their way to one another.
Latifah along with Shakim Compere is set to produce with none other than their Flavor Unit Entertainment company, according to reports. It’s also been the reins behind movies like Beauty Shop, The Perfect Holiday and Just Wright. Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, known for movies and series like “All Of Us,” The Pursuit of Happyness, and the forthcoming Bad Boys For Life, with James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett, will also helm the film.
Of course, this won’t be Latifah and Smith’s first time working together. We can’t forget Latifah’s appearances on Smith’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air back in the 90s.
Smith also made an appearance on The Queen Latifah Show, which Overbrook Entertainment also produced.
