Eddie Murphy – The “Coming To America” Sequel Will Be Rated PG-13!
In recent years, iconic comedian Eddie Murphy has been known for a family-friendly brand of funny, with massive hit films like “The Nutty Professor” and the “Shrek” franchise. Fans may have noticed that there’s a stark difference between those films, and his early work. His stand-up specials, such as the iconic, “Raw,” were known as edgy and raunchy. But the 58-year-old says there’s a reason he’s shied away from R-Rated comedy:
“I think what happened was, there was a period when Hollywood was on some PG-13…that’s how you reached most audiences. And there was, maybe, a 15-year period where that’s all everybody was doing. So I got caught up in that sh*t. But no, doing this movie, we went, ‘This movie has to be rated-R because of the way Rudy Ray Moore was.’”
Next, Eddie dropped a bomb on fans – noting that the anticipated “Coming to America” sequel will be rated PG-13:
“I’m doing Coming to America next, and that’s PG-13.”
It was recently pointed out that Eddie Murphy hasn’t released an R-rated film in nearly two decades! The last was “Life,” alongside Martin Lawrence in 1999. Netflix’s “Dolemite is My Name” will be the next.
“Coming to America 2” is set to premiere in August of 2020, and will co-star comedians such as Tracy Morgan, Luenell, Leslie Jones, and Michael Blackson.
