Frank Ocean To Launch Queer PrEP+ Club Night

Frank Ocean To Launch Queer New York Nightclub Called PrEP+
Singer Frank Ocean is launching his own inclusive New York club night called PrEP+. The night is named after the HIV prevention drug. The event is described as homage to the 1980s’ NYC club scene in a press release. According to the statement,
“PrEP+ is the first in a series of nights; an ongoing safe space made to bring people together and dance. The night is named PrEP+ as an homage to what could have been of the 1980s NYC club scene if the drug PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) — which can be taken daily to prevent HIV/AIDS for those who are not infected but are at high risk — had been invented in that era.”

In addition to welcoming all, the PrEP+ event includes a handful of strict house rules. There will be little to no photos or videos, mandatory consent, zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind.
“Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination.”
In a previous interview, Ocean spoke on how his interest in nightclubs inspires his music. He says,
“I’ve been interested in club and the many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs. The things I look at now have a lot to do with those scenes: Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic.”

He adds,
“I grew up in New Orleans, so the closest to the nightlife scene for me was New Orleans bounce, and that was a lot of trends. But it’s so much a part of my childhood and my youth that I don’t really go back to it so much as a touch point. I’m really looking forward. It’s kind of a mix for me.”
Frank Ocean’s last album, Blonde, released in 2016, while the following year he released a string of one-off tracks including, “Chanel,” “Lens” and “Biking,” featuring the likes of Roc Nation founder, Jay-Z and Tyler The Creator.
