Kim Kardashian Meets With Rodney Reed In Prison, As Texas Court Pauses His Execution

Kim Kardashian West has been very vocal about stopping the execution for Rodney Reed, a man on death row after being convicted of murder. Reed was scheduled for execution on Nov. 20.

Now, Kardashian has sat down with Reed as a Texas court has made a major move in his case.

She posted a photo of Reed Friday (Nov. 15) and wrote,

“Today, I had the honor of meeting #RodneyReed in person and the privilege of sitting with him when he got the news that the highest court in Texas had issued a stay of execution and remanded the case back to the trial court for further consideration.”

She added,

“Words cannot describe the relief and hope that swept over the room in that moment. That hope had been building over the last few weeks around Rodney’s case. We have seen Democrats and Republicans come together. We have seen grassroots activists and lawmakers link arms. We have heard people all around the globe speak up. And all because of a deep belief that every man or woman accused of a crime – especially one punishable by death – deserves the chance to have all available evidence considered.”

She ended by thanking everyone who was involved.

“So grateful for the commitment and passion of everyone who voiced their support, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for their recommendation to issue a 120 day reprieve, and the courts for issuing a stay!”

Her post comes a little more than a month after she pleaded with Texas governor Greg Abbott to reconsider executing Reed. Read about that here.

Reed’s case has been getting lots of attention lately as he’s been in prison for 22 years. He’s pleaded his innocence despite being on death row. He was accused of murdering Stacey Stites in 1996. While her fiancé Jimmy Fennell was one of the first suspects to grab the attention of police, Reed was later arrested after his sperm was found in Stites’ body. But he insists that they were in a consensual relationship.

Since his trial in 1998, all three of the forensic experts have recanted their testimony, and others have spoken out about their suspicions that Fennell committed the crime, including a statement that Fennell was heard bragging about doing it (his lawyers denied he ever confessed).

For now, his execution has been put on hold for 120 days after a unanimous vote from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. Reed’s lawyers will be able to bring new evidence to the case in an effort to prove his innocence.
