‘The Game’ Hourlong Reboot In the Works From Creator Mara Brock Akil & Devon Greggory
The hit series The Game may be returning! According to reports, the CW is developing a one-hour followup series from the original series’ creator Mara Brock Akil and co-creator Devon Greggory.
According to reports, the reboot will be set on the East Coast with some of the original cast members to return. Here are details about the sequel’s premise:
The Game family was coasting to retirement but they heard the call of the fans to make a comeback… and like the record-breaking winners they are, they decided to pick up and move from a half-hour sitcom in San Diego to a one-hour dramedy in Baltimore. This time, our out-of-touch old-timers are determined to help a bunch of knuckle-head new-schoolers navigate the ruthless game of football on and off the field. They will clash through the pitfalls of fame, fortune and love. Some will win, others will lose, but that’s what happens when you play The Game.
Greggory, who will serve as showrunner, executive produces with original The Game executive producers Mara Brock Akil, Salim Akil and Kelsey Grammer as well as Tom Russo of Grammnet NH Productions.
The Game is an comedy-drama television series created by Mara Brock Akil. Premiering on October 1, 2006, the series debuted as the only new comedy series chosen for The CW’s primetime schedule.
After three seasons, the series was canceled by The CW in May 2009. BET struck a deal with The Game’s parent company CBS to develop new episodes of the series, relocating taping of the show from Los Angeles to Atlanta, and announcing its renewal at the April 2010 upfronts. The Game returned to the air for a fourth season on January 11, 2011, and brought a record breaking 7.7 million viewers for the season premiere which made it the most watched sitcom premiere in cable television history.
The final season premiered on June 3, 2015, and ended on August 5, 2015.
