Some are calling out Issa Rae after she subtly took issue with the lack of females nominated for the coveted Best Female Director Academy Award.
While announcing the nominees with John Cho Monday morning (Jan. 13), Issa Rae pointed out the noticeable absence of females nominated for the award. She said,
“Congratulations to those men…”

Issa Rae isn’t one to shy away from her views. She tweeted ahead of the announcement:
“Announcing this year’s #OscarNomswith @JohnTheChonext Monday! You already know who I’m rooting for…”

She seemed to be referencing her iconic moment when asked who she was rooting for at the 2017 Emmy Awards.
