Amy Winehouse’s Family Says Her Biopic Will Show “A Real Positive Image Of Amy”

Late singer Amy Winehouse is going from “Back to Black,” to live in color on the big screen. Though the 2015 documentary, “Amy,” saw massive success, garnering an Academy Award – Amy Winehouse’s family is ready to tell her story on an even larger scale. At her recent induction into the Music Walk of Fame in London, her family revealed they are moving forward with plans to release a feature film biopic in theaters about her life. It will reportedly tell the story of:

“…the real Amy.”

Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch, gave this comment on the project:

“There’s a couple of things I can’t elucidate, if that’s the right word. I can’t really elaborate on, but yeah, there will be something like that, and a show.”

He continued:

“It’s something we’re very much looking forward to. To re-introduce people to Amy, but the real Amy. The one who loved people and was loved and had people all around her. A real positive image of Amy.”

When previously reported to the media, the biopic on the singer was supposed to have started filming in 2019. Monumental Pictures’ Debra Hayward and Alison Owen were set to produce the film at the time, with “Kinky Boots” writer, Geoff Deane, penning the script. An unknown actress will reportedly star as Amy Winehouse, who passed in 2011.

Her father says that it will follow in the big-budget footsteps of biopics like Elton John‘s “Rocketman:”

“A different story of course, but it will be going along similar lines I guess, although we haven’t got that far. It’s all very exciting.”
