Terry Crews’ Wife Rebecca Had A Mastectomy After Breast Cancer Diagnosis
The wife of actor and TV host Terry Crews has opened up about her recent battle with breast cancer.
Rebecca Crews was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast cancer recently and had a double mastectomy, a surgical procedure that removes both breasts, shortly after.
She told PEOPLE of her journey,
“Though it was Stage 1, you’re overwhelmed with fear, like cancer is this all-consuming, all-powerful evil entity.”
Fortunately, she no longer has cancer and is recovering in her and Terry Crews’ Pasadena, Calif. home.

Her history with breast cancer dates back to roughly 12 years ago. Back then, a pre-cancerous lump was taken out of her right breast, the same procedure her mother underwent last year. While no one in her family has battled breast cancer, she asks for mammograms and ultrasounds while at her physical exams. Interestingly enough, her recent mammogram didn’t detect breast cancer, but she asked for an ultrasound anyway.
“I had this gut feeling, like, ‘Better safe than sorry.'”
She said she thought to herself before the ultrasound,
“Okay, if they find something, Rebecca, just cut it off and reconstruct it.'”
While the ultrasound found a cancerous lump, Rebecca Crews said she felt a sense of calmness.
“After the call I had this clear vision of myself stepping through a door, and on the other side of this door, the sun was shining brightly and I was very happy. I just had this sense that I was going to be okay.”
She then told Terry Crews, who was working out at a gym in their home.
“My husband has watched me go through a lot, but the look on his face … he looked at me like I was going to die. He told me it felt like his insides were melting. I said, ‘I need you to be strong for me,’ and he said, ‘Okay’ and hugged me, but I think he needed that hug.”
She had the double mastectomy on March 3 and confessed that amid the coronavirus pandemic, she’s not sure if she’s experiencing symptoms of the virus or an after effect of her surgery.
“I’ve been so nervous, too, because a couple times I’ve woken up in the middle of the night with trouble breathing and thought, ‘Oh no.'”
Still, Terry Crews has been with her every step of the way.
“I have to give him his props because he’s been cooking for me, helping me bathe, and just really stepping up. I tease him all the time, I’m like, Did I have to get cancer to be treated like this?!’ ”
The experience has also served as a chance for her to get to know herself.
“I’m doing a little soul searching and asking myself what’s important to me. But other than that … my life is in a good balance, and I have so many happy, exciting things to focus on.”
We’re praying for Rebecca as she fully recovers!
