Spike Lee Says Bill Cosby’s “Different World” Jacked His “School Daze” Movie

Spike Lee is speaking on the comparisons between his classic film School Daze and Bill Cosby’s series “A Different World”, which was a spinoff of “The Cosby Show.”

The Academy-Award winning director took to Twitter to address being the black excellence projects and wrote,

“And For Record. SCHOOL DAZE Was Shot Before DIFFERENT WORLD. Robbi Reed Cast Both. Bill Cosby Jacked Us. #FACT #schooldazeonnetflix

He also shared a few other fun facts about School Daze to celebrate the film being released on Netflix.

School Daze was released on Feb. 12, 1988, and starred Laurence Fishburne, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison, as students of a fictitious HBCU, Mission College, who tackled topics greek life and colorism.

Interestingly enough, Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison also starred in “A Different World”, which aired from 1987-1983.

The series also took place at a fictitious HBCU, Hillman College, and served as a spinoff to “The Cosby Show” as it initially followed the life of Denise Huxtable as a student before focusing on other characters.
