Will Smith Gets Teary-Eyed While Remembering Late James Avery During Virtual ‘Fresh Prince’ Reunion [VIDEO]

During this COVID-19 pandemic we’ve witnessed many celebrities take their talents to online platforms. Will Smith has now also taken advantage of the Safer at Home policy and started an online Snapchat series entitled “Will From Home”.

In his latest edition, Will Smith surprised his fans with a 30-year reunion of The Fresh Prince cast with Karyn Parsons, Tatyana M. Ali, Alfonso Ribeiro, Joseph Marcell, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Daphne Maxwell Reid.  Noticeably missing was actor, James Avery who played the stern, yet loveable lawyer, Uncle Phil.  James Avery was only 68 years old when he passed away in 2013 of heart surgery complications.

On one video that was dedicated to James Avery, a visibly emotional Will Smith states:

“That just makes me teary.”

His caption reads:

“Our show wouldn’t have been HALF what it was without the talent and light that was James Avery.  We all love and miss you, James.”

The cast sits and watches over a minute of special moments honoring the man they looked to as a father figure and friend for six seasons of their show.

Immediately after, Will can be heard saying, “James Avery, James Avery!” as the cast can be seen wiping their tears.

On another video, Alfonso Ribeiro, who played the hilarious character Carlton Banks, references DJ Jazzy Jeff’s recent bout with the coronavirus.

“He’s alive… Jeff, you had us all scared.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff responded,

“Not as scared as I was.”

Actress Daphne Maxwell Reid, who played the second version of the iconic Aunt Viv character, then asked him,

“You’re doing better?”

Jeff updates her and the cast and explains,

“It was a little rough, but I’m happy to be back on the other side.”

The reunion comes as the show approaches its 30-year inception. Will Smith wrote,

“It’s been 30 years since the first season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air so I thought we should have ourselves a lil Zoom reunion!!  Check us out, link in bio #WillFromHome”.

Other guests featured on Will From Home include Dr. Fauci, James Corden, Tyra Banks, and more.
