Nipsey Hussle – Murder Trial For Rapper’s Suspected Killer Postponed Due To COVID-19
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the trial for Eric Holder, the murder suspect in rapper Nipsey Hussle’s death has been postponed. In February, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Perry told Eric Holder that he would retain his right to a speedy trial. Less than a month later, the quick spread of COVID-19 forced L.A. County into stay-at-home orders that also affected court scheduling.
As of March 23, all of the Los Angeles County Clerk offices have been closed. All courthouses in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and other cities around Southern California have been temporarily closed until further notice. California’s shelter in place order is expected to be lifted sometime this month.
Eric Holder’s next court date has been pushed back to June 8. Eric Holder stands accused of fatally shooting Nipsey Hussle outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles last year. Holder faces one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Holder is reportedly being held at the Twin Towers Facility in Downtown Los Angeles.
Last year in November, Holder attempted to dismiss the case against him. On Nov. 14th, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry said in rejecting defense attorney Lowynn Young’s motion:
“The court finds that there is enough to go to the jury.”
The rapper and entrepreneur, born Ermias Asghedom, was shot at least 10 times before being rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Though Holder fled the crime scene, he was apprehended two days later nearly 30 miles away in Bellflower, Calif.

In more positive news, Nipsey’s legacy will continue on as it was reported back in February in an announcement made by his business, Marathon Clothing, and his girlfriend Lauren London that the family was working on negotiating a deal with both Netflix and Academy Award-nominated Ava DuVernay on a documentary on his life. The announcement read:
“Nipsey’s company Marathon Films, will present his feautre film documentary executive produced by RocNation and his two children Emani and Kross Asghedom. No final deal has been inked. We are currently in negotiations with Netflix for this project with Ava DuVernay, and her company ARRAY to co-produce.”

“This documentary is very important to the family and will not be fast tracked by monetary gain and/or commercial interest.”
