Kimora Lee Simmons Addresses COVID-19 Racism That Asian Americans Face: Call It Out When You See It!

During a press conference (March 18), Donald Trump made headlines after he labeled Covid-19 “The Chinese Virus”:

“Cause it comes from China. It’s not racist at all. Not at all. It comes from China. That’s why. I wanna be accurate.”

Directly after Donald Trump’s comments, Los Angeles based organization, Stop AAPI Hate, says that 1,716 incidents of coronavirus-related attacks have been directed at Asian Americans, between March 19 to April 30. The organization started in March, with the goal to record all incidents of coronavirus-related discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Kimora Lee Simmons, creator of the legendary 1990s brand Baby Phat, who had a big relaunch of the line last year says, we all have to do our part. Kimora Lee Simmons joined other Asian American designers to speak up against COVID-19 racism, she says:

“We each have a role to play in combating the virus but also racism. There are two sicknesses with a whole racially derogatory undertone that you have to fight at the same time. We have to combat it and treat each other with a little bit of respect because we’re all part of the bigger picture. We all have to do our part, call [racism] out when you see it, hear it or read about it.”

Kimora’s ex-husband Russell Simmons has also been very vocal about his thoughts of COVID-19, saying that the virus began by eating animals, and it would not exist if the world were Vegan.
