Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine Unveil Plan To Open Free High School Next To USC

Legendary record producer Andre “Dr. Dre” Romelle Young and Jimmy Iovine are up to great things!

During an interview with British GQ, Dr. Dre spoke on an Academy that he and Jimmy Iovine founded in 2013, The USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy. In Fall 2014, the academy welcomed its inaugural class, which graduated in May 2018. After that, the academy was named USC’s 20th professional school.

Through their founders, the academy looks to empower the forthcoming generations of leaders, innovators, and business owners. According to their website, graduating students of the academy are eligible to receive “all USC administered financial aid and merit scholarships.” Dr. Dre said,

“The thing that excites me is, we know that, one of the kids that comes out of our Academy has the potential to go on and do something to change the world. That’s the thing that’s the most interesting to me, you know.”

Jimmy Iovine added:

“We’re also starting a high school, and we’re starting it right outside of USC. It’s for that neighborhood and it’s going to be free. We’re doing it with Loreen jobs and XQ and USC. And, whoever goes to that school in high school is gonna have an advantage when they come out.”

He continued:

“We want to give unrepresented kids an edge because no one markets high school. The reason why they don’t market high schools [is because] they don’t have anything to market. So, kids really think you know, a lot of kids today think it’s not really necessary: why am I doing this you know do I really need to know about this and that.”

Dr.Dre also said:

Not only that, most of them hate it. For me the words that come to mind are pain in the a**. You know it’s just, I never liked school, but I understand the possibilities that it can create you […] It’s necessary and these kids can go in and do some really really amazing things and I’m glad to be a part of that.”
