Donald Trump Lashes Out On ‘Thugs’ Amid Minneapolis Protests: When The Looting Starts, The Shooting Starts + Twitter Places Warning Label On His Tweet
President Donald Trump is not letting up on what seems to be an all-out war on social media, namely Twitter. He’s always made headlines when it comes to what he’s had to say the social media outlet and this week has been no different as he has threatened to shut down social media after the site allowed users to fact check his tweets.
Despite this, Twitter added a warning label to one of his tweets about the unrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota in response to the death of Minnesota resident George Floyd. George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man, died while in police custody shortly after bystander video showed him handcuffed and pinned to the ground by the knee of a Caucasian Minneapolis police officer.
The tweet said:
….These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!
Although the warning was added, the tweet can still be seen because according to the label,
Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.
President Donald Trump has since responded with a warning of his own, threatening regulation of the site:
Twitter is doing nothing about all of the lies & propaganda being put out by China or the Radical Left Democrat Party. They have targeted Republicans, Conservatives & the President of the United States. Section 230 should be revoked by Congress. Until then, it will be regulated!
Section 230 is included in the Communications Decency Act of 1996 where it protects websites from liability for content created by their users. President Donald Trump is now challenging this part of the act where it specifically says:
No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.
In his fight against Twitter while using the platform, President Trump has also retweeted what appear to be supportive quotes from Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro of Justice with Judge Jeanine and Mornings With Maria host Maria Bartiromo:
