Kim Kardashian Urges Followers To Help Release Willie Simmons From Prison, He Has Served 38 Years For A $9 Robbery
Over the past few years, reality star Kim Kardashian-West has been increasingly active in prison reforms, assisting in getting dozens of African Americans released. Now, amid the current protests of Africa-American people seeking racial justice against officers for police brutality, Kim Kardashian-West is using her platform to continue her work to help those of color behind bars. Kim Kardashian-West has asked her followers via Twitter to sign a petition in hopes of getting Willie Simmons released from prison. Simmons has been incarcerated for almost 40 years for a $9 robbery.
In her tweet, which included a link to a petition for Willie Simmons, West said:
“Please sign this petition! Willie Simmons has served 38 years for a $9 robbery”

The petition site, Change.org, states that Willie Simmons is an Army veteran that was prosecuted under Alabama’s habitual offender law, in 1982. He was convicted of 1st-degree robbery and sentenced to life without parole for stealing $9. Prior to his conviction, Simmons had reportedly been arrested three times, one for grand larceny, and the other two from receiving stolen property. Simmons had allegedly become addicted to drugs, while he was overseas. Now, Kardashian is using her platform to help get Willie Simmons released from prison after spending 38 years behind bars for his crime.
Before her plea to help Willie Simmons, she took to social media to spread the word about a few other women who she wanted to help release from prison.

“Tynice Hall was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a first time non violent drug conspiracy,” West wrote. “Her boyfriend at the time used her house for his illegal drug activities. She was only 22 years old when she went to prison and left behind a 3 year old son. Tynice rehabilitated herself and prepared for a future outside of prison by completing numerous classes and becoming certified in various trades.”

“Judith Negron was sentenced to 35 years for conspiracy to commit health care fraud,” West said. “After trial she received the longest sentence ever given to a female for a white collar crime. A mother, she left behind two young sons. This was Judith’s first ever offense. Wardens and staff alike spoke glowingly of the incredible contributions she made to the prison while incarcerated.”

“Crystal Munoz was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana,” West said. “She left behind a five month old baby and was pregnant. Crystal was shackled by prison guards during the birth of her second daughter. Her case was highlighted in the first Step Act which banned the degrading and inhumane treatment of shackling female prisoners…”
