Prince’s Estate Drops Unreleased Song ‘I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man’ [LISTEN]

It’s been four years since the untimely death of iconic musician, Prince. As his estate gears up to reissue the expanded version of his classic album, “Sign O’ The Times,” on September 25, it has dropped the never-released song, “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (1979 Version)”, in partnership with Warner Records.

The original album, released in 1987, was the ninth studio album by the singer and boasted hits such as “U Got The Look” with Sheena Easton, and “If I Was Your Girlfriend”.

“I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (1979 Version)” was engineered by Bob Mockler.  It’s reported to be the oldest recording in the Super Deluxe Edition collection, dating back to sessions for Prince’s self-titled 1979 album.

At the time of his passing, Prince was working on his 288-page memoir, ‘The Beautiful Ones,’ that shares the same title as his 1984 hit song off of his Purple Rain album.  The #1 New York Times Bestseller was published on October 29, 2019.

A multi-instrumentalist, he was considered a guitar virtuoso and was also skilled at playing the drums, percussion, bass, keyboards, and synthesizer. He died on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57.
