DMX Gets Emotional While Speaking On His Various Personalities: They’re There To Get Me Through Life
Rapper DMX isn’t necessarily known for his soft side. However, while on BET’s “Ruff Ryders Chronicles”, the ‘Where the Hood At’ rapper showed an emotional side of himself that we don’t normally see. DMX, born Earl Simmons, didn’t have an easy life. As a child, he was abused by both his mother and her boyfriend(s) and he suffered from homelessness as a teen. The 49-year-old musician has also dealt with addiction and incarceration as an adult.
DMX was asked are there any parts of himself that have helped him deal with the obstacles of his life. He answered,
“They’re different things… There’s a few things, a few people in me and they get me through life.”
Even though DMX admitted to having different personalities that have helped him cope with the hardships he’s faced in life, he didn’t give too much detail about them. When asked what he would want the public to know about his different personas he replied,
“I wouldn’t want anyone to know anything.”
He added,
“I don’t talk about them. You already got me talking about them. Nope.”
When speaking on his personalities DMX became emotional as he teared up and said,
“They’re there to get me through life. I don’t know if I made ’em or if God gave ’em to me, or maybe circumstances and situations did.”

His ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, spoke on his multiple-personalties and gave her own opinion on who she thinks they are and why they’re here.
“Earl is the child that could have been before his dad left and his mom didn’t know how to handle him. X was created to protect Earl, to take on all the trauma of his childhood. He’s the angry one. DMX is the entertainer. He’s another protector of Earl but so much nicer.”
