Versace Footwear VP Salehe Bembury Says He Was Racially Profiled By Beverly Hills Police [WATCH]
Salehe Bembury, the VP of Versace Footwear, is calling out police in Beverly Hills for allegedly racially profiling him.
In a video he shared on his Instagram page Friday (Oct. 2), the talented shoe designer says that he was being obtained because of his skin color. He also noted that he decided to visit a friend’s store as well as the Versace store to make some purchases since he said he is rarely in the area. Salehe Bembury goes on to explain that as he left the Versace store, Beverly Hills police officers quickly got out of their vehicles to ask him why he was jaywalking. Salehe Bembury said the experience was frightening for him and that he was doing nothing wrong other than walking with a large Versace bag.

Salehe verbally confirmed with one of the officers that his record was clean. Reportedly, the Beverly Hills Police Department says that Salehe‘s detainment was for about 3 minutes and he was not given a citation. The 28-year-old former Yeezy designer reportedly agreed to a search before being released from detainment.
Donatella Versace, sister of the slain originator of the brand Gianni Versace and Chief Creative Officer of the luxury Versace brand, has shared her thoughts on the incident. She shared a clip of the video and captioned her post:
“I am appalled this happed to Salehe Bembury today. He has been a consultant at Versace for a long time and the behavior he experienced is totally unacceptable. He was stopped on the street solely for the color of his skin. Stay strong @salehebembury. Sending you love and support x”
