Prince – Journalist Alleges Singer ‘Gobbled’ His Percocet Pills ‘Like M&Ms’: I Didn’t Even Have Time To Offer Him A Glass Of Water
Four years after the sudden and tragic death of musical legend Prince, a journalist is revealing an alleged personal memory about the singer in a new memoir entitled “This Thing Called Life”.
According to Neal Karlen, he and Prince had a 31-year friendship that reconvened after a four-month hiatus following a surgery the journalist had from a rollerblading accident. When they finally caught up, they allegedly talked about “a dozen topics” that included the Percocet supply that Neal had been prescribed due to his accident.
Reportedly, Prince immediately wanted to come over. Neal wrote,
“He’d been to my apartment but not for a few years, and for him to schlep so far to pay a little sympathy call felt…meaningful.”
But Neal recalls the iconic singer paying the visit for a different reason. He allegedly wanted the supply of Percocet pills from the journalist.
Neal recalled,
“I didn’t even have time to offer him a glass of water before he spied the white Walgreen’s bottle of pills in my living room.”
He continued,
“Prince gobbled a third of the bottle like they were M&Ms, and my heart sank. It was f***ing true. I’d hear rumors for years that he’d been off and on heavy painkillers ever since the ‘Purple Rain’ tour a dozen years before.”
Prince’s cousin, Charles Smith previously recalled the singer overdosing just days before his death but being brought back to life. He stated,
“He died on the plane. Then, they brought him back.”
But sadly in April 2016, Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The Prince estate has declined to comment on the journalist’s statements.
