Lil Wayne’s Former Manager Is Suing Him For $20 Million
Lil Wayne is facing new legal issues heading into 2021.
His ex-manager, Ronald Sweeney, is reportedly suing him for $20 million after he helped the Grammy award-winning rapper iron out his contract with Cash Money back in 2005. At that time, Lil Wayne was feuding with Cash Money exec Birdman as they disagreed on Cash Money’s payout to Young Money, Lil Wayne’s record label. While those two were able to come to an agreement in May 2018, Sweeney said he wants his part of the settlement.

He claimed he’s received a handful of payments but that Lil Wayne allegedly has a long way to go before he’s completely paid.
He also said in court documents that Lil Wayne wanted him to fire the rapper’s manager and friend, Cortez Bryant in May 2018, because of a conflict of interest amid a legal battle between Young Money rapper Drake and Cash Money. Sweeney said he stepped in and fulfilled Bryant’s responsibilities and convinced Lil Wayne to give him a raise from 10% to 17% commission.

Still, things allegedly got worse after Bryant and another Young Money artist, Mack Maine, tried to cause issues between Lil Wayne and Sweeney, he claimed. Sweeney said he’s convinced their attempt work because Lil Wayne let him go in September 2018.
He also is said to believe Lil Wayne has the money to pay him because the rapper pocketed $100 million after selling his masters to Universal Music Group in June of this year.
The lawsuit comes after reports that Lil Wayne has been charged with possession of a firearm. He could get 10 years in jail if convicted.
