Joe Biden Revives Plan To Put Harriet Tubman On $20 Bill
After being put on pause, Joe Biden is resurrecting the plan to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, replacing President Andrew Jackson.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday, Jan. 25th,
“The Treasury Department is taking steps to resume efforts to put Harriet Tubman on the front of the new $20 notes.”
She continued,
“It’s important that our notes, our money … reflect the history and diversity of our country, and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note would certainly reflect that. So we’re exploring ways to speed up that effort.”

Barack Obama
Former President Barack Obama first started the initiative to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill during his last term in 2016. The underground railroad hero was initially supposed to be featured on the bill in 2020. Steve Mnuchin, who was the Treasury Secretary in 2019, said the unveiling would be postponed until 2028. Then-President Donald Trump also suggested she appear on the rare $2 bill.

Psaki, who also worked in the White House during Barack Obama’s presidency said,
“I was here when we announced that and it was very exciting and hasn’t moved forward yet which we would have been surprised to learn at the time.”
