Donald Glover Signs 8-Figure Deal With Amazon For New Content Channel, Malia Obama Reportedly On Writing Staff For Early Project
Donald Glover is taking his talents to Amazon for an eight-figure deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is parting ways with Disney’s FX for a multi-year deal with Amazon worth eight figures. The move will reportedly come with a content channel to showcase Donald Glover’s catalog and additional projects. He will also executive produce multiple projects. His brother, Atlanta writer Stephen Glover also signed a deal with the platform.
One series is already potentially in the works. Hive is reportedly a show that will tell the story of a public figure likened to superstar Beyonce. The eldest daughter of Barack Obama, Malia Obama, will reportedly join the team of writers for the project.
Donald Glover also recently announced a renewed version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith that will premiere on Amazon Prime in 2022. He will star opposite Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The original was released on June 7, 2005, and starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
While Donald Glover’s deal with FX is over, his show Atlanta won’t be impacted as it has been renewed for seasons three and four. Production will reportedly kick off next month and both seasons will be taped back to back in an effort to get the show on the air as soon as possible. It has been on hiatus since May 2018.
