Tiger Woods’ Team Releases Statement After Car Crash
Tiger Woods Injured In Car Crash, Extracted From SUV Due To Major Vehicular Damage In Accident
Update #1: As part of a statement on Tiger Woods’ official Twitter account, Dr. Anish Mahajan of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center updated the famed golfer’s condition.
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center,” Mahajan said. “Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins. Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling.” Woods is “awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room,” according to the statement.
Original Story: Tiger Woods has been hospitalized for “multiple leg injuries” after being injured in a serious car accident today (Feb. 23rd) near Ranchos Palos Verdes, California. According to reports, the legendary golf star had to be extracted from his sports-utility vehicle as it sustained “major damage” following a single-vehicle rollover traffic crash.
He was the only occupant of the SUV and was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center by ambulance to be treated for “moderate to critical” injuries suffered in the crash. His injuries are not life-threatening, and it is believed he was conscious at the time he was extracted from the vehicle.
