Jay-Z & Tina Turner Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, LL Cool J Honored With Musical Excellence Award
Congratulations are in order for Jay-Z, Tina Turner, and LL Cool J!
Earlier today (Wednesday, May 12th), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of inductees for 2021, and Jay-Z and Tina Turner were among the artists named! Additionally, LL Cool J was announced to receive a Musical Excellence Award.
In order to be eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, artists have to have released their debut commercial recording at least 25 years before nomination. Resultingly, this was the first year that Jay-Z (born Shawn Carter) was eligible, as his debut Reasonable Doubt album hit airwaves back in 1996 with hits like “Can’t Knock the Hustle.”

Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock), on the other hand, made her solo debut back in 1974. However, it was her fifth solo album, 1984’s Private Dancer, that shot her into superstardom. Before her solo career, Tina Turner was a part of the Ike & Tina Turner musical group, which was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in 1991.
LL Cool J (born James Smith) is not currently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, although has been eligible for some time now since his debut album was released in 1985. However, the “Around The Way Girl” rapper is being honored with a Musical Excellence Award at this year’s ceremony to acknowledge his musical prowess!
The 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will occur on October 30th at 8 p.m. (EST) at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. It will air via HBO on a later date.
