Idris Elba Recalls Telling Wife Sabrina Dhowre ‘If You’re Not Happy, Leave’ When They Were Dating: I Had These Massive Anger Tantrums

Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre are still going strong after getting married in 2019 – but his anger problems caused serious issues in their relationship when they were dating.

He said on their new podcast Coupledom, 

“Sabrina and I, very early in our relationship I was very stressed so I had these massive anger tantrums that were like explosions. She was like, ‘Who are you?'”

He confessed,

‘I was always the first to say, ‘Hey, if you’re not happy, leave. Move.’ It was kind of like a male instinct.”

He said his wife is frequently the one who’s the voice of reason.

“Sabrina and I both have strong personalities and typically it’s Sabrina who says, ‘Look, I don’t want to fight.’ I’ve been getting better at it recently but when I do it, I get nothing back. When she does it, I go, ‘Thank you.'”

Despite their issues, they said they are in a “good place” and enjoy doing business ventures together like their podcast and lifestyle company S’able Labs. Sabrina Dhowre said,

“We’re newly business partners, but we’re also newlyweds. Idris is my best friend. I want to be around this guy every day of my life, so it’s really great to be able to see what that morphs into.”

Idris Elba also has no problem gushing over Sabrina Dhowre, who he met in a Vancouver jazz bar in 2017. He told PEOPLE last month,

“We started dating and I fell head over heels. Everyone was like, ‘Hey man, you seem so much happier.’ I didn’t realize I was, but the truth is that it really sparked a lot of conversations around how a partnership can bring out the best in you.”
