Spike Lee Is Re-Editing Final Episode Of 9/11 Docuseries After Receiving Criticism For Featuring Conspiracy Theories
Spike Lee is going back to the drawing board to make some editing changes to his 9/11 Docuseries ‘NYC Epicenters: 9/11? 2021 ½’. The limited-run series aired on Aug. 22 and the final part of the 4-part docuseries is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 11, the 20-year anniversary of the attacks. A sneak-peak edition of the final episode was provided to reporters, however, it was pulled from the site that HBO uses to release screeners due to criticism it received for featuring 9/11 conspiracy theories. The episode reportedly featured interviews from the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.
As previously reported, 64-year-old Spike Lee (real name Shelton Jackson Lee) has been pretty vocal about not fully believing in the reported facts from 9/11. When asked why he included interviews from 9/11 conspiracists in docuseries he previously replied,
“I mean I got questions, and I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing, about 9/11.”
He continued:
“The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature’s not reached. And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground–when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it’s like you’re looking at the same thing.”
Lee added:
“But people [are] going to make up their own mind. My approach is to put the information in the movie and let people decide for themselves. I respect the intelligence of the audience.”
It now seems that Lee may have had a change of heart. He recently released a statement asking people to hold their final judgment as he re-edits the last episode of his HBO docuseries.
“I’m Back In The Editing Room And Looking At The Eighth And Final Chapter Of NYC EPICENTERS 9/11? 2021 ½ . I Respectfully Ask You To Hold Your Judgement Until You See The FINAL CUT. I Thank You.”

The docuseries primarily focuses on New Yorkers’ reactions to major events that affected the city, such as 9/11 and the current COVID pandemic. According to the trailer for the show, the series captures the city’s history and evolution in the 20 years since 9/11 with interviews from the citizens who lived it.’
