The Weeknd Will NOT Be Submitting His Music For Grammy Consideration This Year
The Weeknd will not be submitting his music for Grammy consideration this year.
Sources revealed that Republic is not submitting the Canadian singer and songwriter for Grammy consideration in any category, despite his success with his single “Save Your Tears.”
The video for the chart-topping single has half a billion views on YouTube after debuting earlier this year. It also peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s coveted Hot 100 chart in May.
This isn’t the first time The Weeknd (real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) hasn’t submitted his work for a potential Grammy Award.
The Weeknd has spoken publicly about his boycott against the Grammys and recently said he would continue to withhold his music from consideration, explaining:
“The trust has been broken for so long between the Grammy organization and artists that it would be unwise to raise a victory flag. I think the industry and public alike need to see the transparent system truly at play for the win to be celebrated, but it’s an important start. I remain uninterested in being a part of the Grammys, especially with their own admission of corruption for all these decades. I will not be submitting in the future.”
His manager spoke about his decision and said,
“No change comes without a voice heard. I’m just proud of Abel for standing up for what he believes in. I was in a shock when all this happened but now I see it clearly, and I’m glad we stood for our beliefs.”
The Weeknd first boycotted the Grammy Awards after being snubbed last year. See his tweets below.
