Nipsey Hussle’s Estate Suing Alleged Bootleggers Of The Late Rapper’s Merch

Nipsey Hussle’s estate is suing alleged bootleggers for selling counterfeit ‘Marathon’ related merchandise.

The late rapper’s estate, which is run by his brother, Samiel Asghedom, filed a lawsuit in Illinois against several companies it believes are behind several websites selling knock-off ‘Marathon’ clothing.

Reportedly, Asghedom alleges the companies are targeting sales in Illinois, which is also why the lawsuit was filed in its federal court. Nipsey Hussle’s brother says the estate has trademark right to its ‘Crenshaw’ logo and ‘South Crenshaw State of Mind’, which he claims the sites are allegedly using without permission.

The lawsuit also claims that the misspellings, similar checkout, and accepted payments are additional indications linking the various counterfeit sites. He also believes most of the sellers are out of China and could possibly be working with one another to cover their tracks.

This is not the first time that Marathon Clothing, which was Hussle’s clothing line, has been in court since his passing. In October 2020, the estate sued Crips LLC following their attempt to trademark ‘The Marathon Continues.’ The lawsuit reached a settlement in March, reportedly asking Crips LLC to destroy merch and an undisclosed amount in monetary damages.

Hussle’s estate is asking the judge to force the websites to hand over their domain and for damages, either all the profits from their sales or $2 million per infraction.

Nipsey Hussle, 33, was murdered outside of his Marathon Clothing store in March 2019 in Los Angeles, California. In June, Marathon celebrated its fourth-year anniversary tweeting,

“Today marks 4 years since Nipsey officially opened up The Marathon Clothing Store (the worlds first smartstore.)”
