Lewis Hamilton Purchased A Table At The Met Gala To Share With Young Black Designers
Lewis Hamilton isn’t just offering a seat at the table, he bought one.
Like many other celebrities and influencers, Lewis Hamilton, 36, attended one of fashion’s biggest events – the 2021 Met gala – on Sept. 13th, however, he did not come alone. Alongside the racecar driver were young black designers, Theophilio, Kenneth Nicholson, and Jason Rembert, to which he bought an entire table to share.

While interviewing with Keke Palmer for Vogue on the red carpet, Hamilton said,
“Tonight I am really really fortunate. Anna agreed to host my table and I brought four incredible young black talented designers, and so we have a great host of people tonight.”

The tables at the Met Gala, which are usually owned by the biggest creators in the fashion industry, can cost up to $30,000. Lewis Hamilton added,
“I wanted to create something that was meaningful and would spark a conversation, [and] putting these Black designers at the top of people’s minds.”

Standing as the only Black Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to the importance of diversity. He recently launched two charitable organizations, ‘The Hamilton Commission’ and ‘Mission44,’ which advocates improving the inequalities that often prevent Black people from reaching their potential. On fashion and sports, he said,
“Were living in a time where diversity and inclusion is so important, and that’s why I started this organization.”
He continued,
“I realized it’s very similar in the fashion industry. A lot of young brands and designers don’t have the same opportunities, so that’s what really set me off.”
