21 Savage Facing Gun & Drug Charges Amid Battle With ICE
21 Savage is currently facing gun and drug charges two years after his incident with ICE agents.
According to reports, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the charges (possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a gun) stem from his Feb. 2019 arrest in Atlanta.
While he surrendered to local police yesterday (Thursday, Sept. 23), he was released on bond shortly after. His lawyer Charles Kuck said,
“Last night’s manufactured charges are yet another example of how our justice system, from ICE down to the local level, unjustly targets young Black men who seek to exercise their rights. There is no legitimate basis for these charges nor for ICE’s continued antics, and we will fight until Mr. Joseph is justly vindicated.”
Back in 2019, 21 Savage (born Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph), 21 Savage was put in ICE custody due to an expired visa. It was revealed that the England native had been in the U.S. illegally for years. 21 Savage came to the U.S. when he was a child.
He turned himself in recently amid claims from authorities that he threw a bottle that had codeine out of his car. A handgun was also discovered in the vehicle.
His lawyer addressed his visa status back in 2019 and said,
“As a minor, his family overstayed their work visas, and he, like almost two million other children, was left without legal status through no fault of his own.”
Kuck added that he believed ICE was attempting to intimidate 21 Savage and
unnecessarily punish him. [The federal agency is trying] to intimidate him into giving up his right to fight to remain in the United States.
