‘Black Panther’ Actress Dorothy Steel, Who Launched Her Acting Career At 88, Passes Away [CONDOLENCES]

Dorothy Steel, known for her role in Marvel’s Black Pantherhas sadly died at 95 years old.

She passed away in her Detroit home Friday morning (Oct. 15). Her cause of death has not been made public.

Steel’s agent Cindy Butler shared the news in a Facebook post:

“It’s with a Heavy heart I announce this morning Dorothy Steel transitioned this morning in her hometown of Detroit. That is what she wanted to be home. Thank you Ms. Dorothy for giving me the opportunity to ride this wave with you. Thank you for all the Casting Directors who hired Ms. Dorothy. Thank you to the world for loving on her from afar.”

Butler went on to recall Steel’s memorable sit-down with comedian and TV personality Steve Harvey. 

She added that while Dorothy Steel received several requests for a biopic on her life, she was “very selective.”

Butler revealed Dorothy Steel’s dying wishes and added,

“Per Ms. Dorothy, she told me to tell everyone that arrangements and flowers where to send will be posted via facebook. She was still telling me what to do. That was my Ms.Dorothy………….WAKANDAFOREVER.”

Steel previously said of her role in Black Panther: 

“It was just amazing, it truly was. If anyone would have told me I would be an actor, I would’ve said you got to be out of your mind.”

She was filming the Black Panther sequel when she passed. Her publicist said Steel told her,

“This was going to be my last role.”

While her first big-screen role was playing the leader of the Merchant Tribe in 2017’s Black Panther, she launched her acting career in 2015, when she was 88 years old. She first guest-starred in YouTube’s The Trouble with Going Somewhere series.  She also landed a recurring role in Saints & Sinners on Bounce TV and appeared in BET’s The Oval.

Dorothy Steel returned to the big screen in 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. She starred in Poms that same year.

She also landed roles in Christmas movies like Christmas Wishes & Mistletoe Kisses in 2019 and Merry Christmas, Baby in 2016.

Her resume includes the indie drama Daisy Winters and shorts Black Majik and The Refuge.
