Jussie Smollett’s Request To Dismiss Trial Denied, Jury Selection To Begin Next Month
Actor Jussie Smollett is headed to trial after his request to dismiss the case against him was denied. The former Empire star, who claimed he was a victim of a racial and homophobic attack, will now stand trial in November.

As previously reported, back in 2019, Jussie Smollett told police that he was allegedly attacked by two white men in Chicago. He claimed they put a noose around his neck and poured bleach on him, and yelled “This is MAGA country” before calling him the n-word.
Shortly after authorities began investigating the alleged incident, Smollett’s story started to fall apart when brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo alleged the actor orchestrated the whole thing and paid them $3,500 to attack him. Jussie Smollett was later accused of lying to the police.

The 39-year-old actor’s attorney claims that forcing him into court is a ‘violation’ of his rights being that Smollett has already paid $10,000 in bond and completed community service. Additionally, the disorderly conduct charge brought against him in Cook County, where the incident reportedly occurred, has been dropped. His attorney said,
“A deal is a deal. That’s ancient principle.”
But Judge James Lin said he will not intervene in the investigation.
