La La Anthony Accused Of Plagiarizing Black Designer’s Work W/ Her New PrettyLittleThing Collab: We’ve Seen This Narrative So Many Times
Did La La Anthony steal an up-and-coming Black designer’s work?
Yesterday (Tuesday, Nov. 2nd), a fashion designer named Ash Forde accused La La Anthony of plagiarism. Specifically, Ash Forde–who runs a brand called Maison Ashforde–accused the 39-year-old TV personality of ripping off her designs with her recent PrettyLittleThing collaboration. The designer blasted La La Anthony in a lengthy caption, reading:
“I can’t express the amount of disbelief I’m experiencing right now. For another black woman to mirror the designs of another black woman, pure hurt. We’ve seen this narrative so many times from different cultures, but girl–OURS? Before I launched @lala’s stylist @therealnoigjeremy reached out to pull from my first collection for @maisonashforde. We met in NYC where I personally delivered the dress with excitement. MY DESIGNS, NO TEAM, NO SUPPORT, MY FUNDING, AND FOR FREE. Only to find out that the design of my dress would be duplicated by a larger fast fashion brand for @lala’s collab with @prettylittlething.”
The caption continues:
“It’s sad because we’ve seen this happen with small black businesses too many times. We know that @lala had to approve these designs. The level of respect is at an all time low. Being an influencer and new designer, I’ve never counted out small businesses. My rates are fair. I always give recognition and ALL OF MY DESIGNS are original. Just thought I’d share my story so it puts a dent into the cycle stopping in this industry.”

An array of screenshots accompany the caption, with the first being a meme involving the design in question.

Ash Forde also showed proof that her design dates back to the summertime and gave viewers various angles of the dress.

Then, the designer uploaded screenshots showing her interacting with members of La La Anthony‘s team. The screenshots also indicate that La La received one of Ash Forde‘s dresses.

Finally, she showed photos of La La wearing a piece from her PrettyLittleThing collab that is noticeably similar to Ash Forde‘s design.

Ash Forde also made a second upload on the matter where she continues to accuse La La of plagiarizing her design.

La La Anthony has not publicly addressed the accusation.
