Timbaland Faces Backlash After Telling Fans That Quincy Jones’ First Big Hit Was Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”
Timbaland, real name Timothy Mosely, 49, recently received backlash from fans after posting an inaccurate post on the musical accomplishments of legendary producer Quincy Jones, 88.
The producer posted statements to both Instagram and Twitter about the legacy of Quincy Jones. The post read:
“Quincy Jones Started Producing When He Was A Teenager But Didn’t Get His Big Hit “Thriller” Until He Was 50 Years Old… You Never Know When Your Big Break Will Come So Never Give Up!”
Timbaland paired the posts with the caption:
“Never stop @beatclub”
The post was seemingly posted with the intention to inspire his followers to chase their dreams, no matter how long they take. However, many fans believed that the example used within the post diminished the many accomplishments that Quincy Jones had before working with Michael Jackson.
Quincy Jones has worked with many reputable artists, such as Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Leslie Gore, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, etc. He has produced the soundtrack for the hit movie, The Wiz (1978) and producing The Color Purple (1985) and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He goes down in history as one of the most Grammy-nominated artists in history. Quincy Jones has accumulated 79 Grammy nominations, with 27 wins.
With a resume as reputable as Quincy Jones’, fans were quick to come to the defense of Quincy, who has spent 70 years of his life as a successful musician, record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and producer of both film and television. See some reactions below.

Timbaland has not deleted the post, nor has he commented on his lapse in judgement when vetting the validity of his post.
