Whoopi Goldberg’s Busy Schedule Holds Up Production For Highly-Anticipated ‘Sister Act 3,’ Filming Will Possibly Start Later This Year
If you’ve been praying for Sister Act 3, Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg’s character) and the gang has some good news for you!
Director Tim Federle has shared that scheduling conflicts seem to be the only thing getting in the way of the third installment of the film series— but it could possibly go into production later this year. Tim Federle said,
“Now it’s just about schedules and chips falling where they may. [Scheduling] is literally everything. It’s literally like the availability of a convent and the availability of an EGOT!”

Tyler Perry will be lending his expertise to the film, and he previously opened up about how The View host Whoopi Goldberg feels about reprising her iconic role of Deloris Van Cartier. He said,
“The script is being written, and I am the producer on it, not directing. We brought on an incredible director [Tim Federle] and Whoopi’s really excited. I think that this is just what the country needs. We need that feel-good moment in the movies where you go, ‘Oh my God, I left there singing.’ That’s my hope.”

There are reports that Whoopi Goldberg was hesitant and doubtful about returning as Delores Van Cartier, but those feelings have seemingly subsided. In fact, she allegedly wants to bring back as much of the original cast as possible. Lauryn Hill and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among the big names who have appeared in previous installments.

Newcomers for the franchise are not yet known, but KeKe Palmer, who has proven herself to be a Jill of All Trades, is expected to make an appearance. KeKe Palmer decided to shoot her shot for a role during a previous interview on The View, telling Whoopi Goldberg she was down to play any part.
“Now, Whoopi, I gotta shoot my shot like I did with Issa [Rae] a little bit ago. I heard that Tyler Perry is doing Sister Act 3, and I just want you to know I’m available for the job, any job. I mean you don’t have to say anything now. I’ll send you an email or something. Just let me know.”
Goldberg replied,
“I already brought it up.”

Sister Act and its sequel, which were released on May 29, 1992, and Dec. 10, 1993, respectively, follows the fictional Deloris Van Cartier, a murder witness who joins a nun convent to save her life.
