More details are emerging about Mike Tyson’s recent fight on a flight.
According to reports, the Florida man who champion boxer Mike Tyson, 55, was filmed punching repeatedly has been identified as Melvin George Townsend, III – and he has a rap sheet. Reports state that Melvin Townsend, 36, previously served jail time for grand theft, burglary, trafficking stolen property, possession of controlled substances, and fraud. For his crimes that date back as recent as 2018, Melvin Townsend served two separate 20 month and 15 month prison sentences.
Accounts from the Wednesday, [April 20th] Jetblue incident suggest that Melvin continuously harassed Mike Tyson before getting the beat down. Witness statements said that Mike was kind to other airline passengers and took photos with them, even with Melvin before the flight departed.

However, it seems tensions began to grow as Melvin relentlessly questioned the heavyweight. In viral video footage of the altercation, Melvin was filmed seemingly antagonizing the boxing champ, chatting him up while waving his hands close to Mike’s head. Facing forward in his seat, Mike appears unresponsive as Melvin continues his antics with a friend filming the interaction from a nearby seat.

Reps for Mike claim that Melvin proceeded to throw a bottle at the sports personality, causing Mike to lose his composure and release a flurry of punches on the man.

Both men were reportedly met by police when the flight scheduled from San Francisco to Miami landed. Melvin, bloodied by the end of the incident, declined to press charges and both walked away freely.
