Todd & Julie Chrisley Found Guilty On Federal Charges Including Bank Fraud & Tax Evasion – Faces Up To 30 Years In Prison

It looks like Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie Chrisley have found themselves in some serious financial legal issues!

As previously reported, Reality TV stars of “Chrisley Knows Best”, Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie, were accused of lying to receive $30 million in bank loans. They were also accused of filing for bankruptcy to avoid paying $20 million in debt.  Prosecutors stated that Todd and Julie Chrisley intentionally lied to smaller banks to get $30 million between the years of 2007 and 2012 which, was two years before their reality show initially aired. 

It was ultimately ruled that the famed couple lied about the millions of dollars made from their reality show “Chrisley Knows Best” (a reality show revolving around the lives of the wealthy family), along with the $500,000 received in taxes in which Todd Chrisley owed in 2009. According to court documents, Todd and Julie Chrisley launched a shell company titled “7C’s Productions,” so Julie’s name can be placed to prevent the IRS from seizing the $500,000 owed from 2009.

The federal trial against the couple began on May 16 in Atlanta where Todd and Julie Chrisley resided before moving to Nashville. After a three-week trial, Todd and Julie were convicted on all counts of bank and tax fraud, which could lead them to face 30 years in prison. Peter Tarantino, former lawyer and current accountant for Todd and Julie, was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and purposely filing false tax returns. The jury also found Julie guilty of wire fraud and obstruction of justice.

Ryan K. Buchanan, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia stated:

“As today’s outcome shows, when you lie, cheat and steal, justice is blind as to your fame, your fortune, and your position,”

Keri Garley, a special agent in charge of FBI Atlanta, said in a statement.

“In the end, when driven by greed, the verdict of guilty on all counts for these three defendants proves once again that financial crimes do not pay.”

On October 6, 2022, Todd, Julie, and Peter Tarantino will be sentenced.

Julie Chrisley’s attorney, Stephen Friedberg stated:

“Obviously the Chrisleys are devastated and disappointed, but will be pursuing an Appeal. They are grateful for all of the love and support they have received from their Family, friends and fans. They remain strong in their faith and are deeply concerned for all of their children, as well as Todd’s mother, Elizabeth Faye Chrisley. They are looking forward to continue the fight until justice is obtained and they are ultimately vindicated.”

USA Network will continue to air the second half of the couples’ reality show “Chrisley Knows Best,” regardless of the conviction.
