Burna Boy Reveals Toni Braxton Receives 60% of Royalties From His Song ‘Last Last,’ Which Samples Her Hit Song ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’
Afrobeats artist Burna Boy is making a surprising revelation about his song “Last Last.”
During a recent interview, the Nigerian artist talked about his rise to fame, family life, and his single “Last Last.” Burna Boy, 31, (born Damini Ogulu) also talked about why he wanted to sample Toni Braxton’s 2000 hit song, “He Wasn’t Man Enough” for his track. He explained,
“It was actually my idea, to be honest. I always wanted to use that sample and I knew Chopstix [his producer] could do something crazy with it. I just pointed that sh-t out and he took it from there. That’s one of the most special creative processes ever, but she is taking 60 percent of the sh*t.”
“I’m not complaining, man. Hopefully, she even pops out to one of the shows.”
Toni Braxton’s, 54, record “He Wasn’t Man Enough” dropped 22 years ago and is still getting praised by fans and fellow music artists. The song, which was featured on her third studio album “The Heat,” received positive reviews from music critics, many of whom praised it as one of Braxton’s best works. The record reached international success and became one of Toni Braxton’s signature songs, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, where the single stood for several weeks and number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for four weeks.
