Mase Says He Never Got The Pay & Respect He Deserved From Diddy While Being Signed To Bad Boy: He Didn’t Want Me To Grow At Anything
Mase hasn’t had good things to say about Diddy and his legendary label, Bad Boy Records.
In a recent interview with the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Mase opened up about his ongoing feud with Diddy and revealed where their issues stemmed from.
When asked why things went south between him and the famed music executive, Mase said:
“I can say this because it’s not something I didn’t say to [Diddy]. I felt like I did more than I got credit for, more than I got paid for.”
Following the rapper-turned-minister’s initial statement, the host prompted him to elaborate, and he continued with,
“I’m tryna be nice. I never got paid what I was worth, and I never got the respect I was worth. So, the disdain that I got for [Diddy] is more like, ‘You tryna keep me here, n*gga. I’m not here. All my peers is up here. All my peers are bosses.’ [It’s] just like [when] somebody raise somebody up, you know, they did work with you, they go from your lil’ man to, maybe, A&R, to something else. He just kept tryna keep me right here, like, he didn’t want me to grow at anything.”
After being introduced to Diddy through The Notorious B.I.G.’s road manager, Cudda Love, Mase reportedly signed a $250,000 deal with Bad Boy Records in the mid-90s.
The iconic lyricist released his debut album, titled Harlem World, in 1997, which went on to become certified quadruple platinum.
With a melodic flow to accompany his smooth swag, Mase’s contribution to the Hip-Hop industry has since influenced a whole new generation of rappers.
However, to this day, he doesn’t seem to be too happy about his journey to the top, nor the people responsible for it.
Earlier this year, Mase unveiled a track called “Oracle 2: The Liberation of Mason Betha,” which most deemed a diss toward Diddy after he accused the rap producer of exploiting The Notorious B.I.G.’s children.
He also was seen blasting Diddy for his “extremely unfair” business practices online back in 2020.
