Vanessa Bryant is protecting the late Kobe Bryant’s brand and legacy at all costs.
This week, it was reported that sneaker giant Nike had signed a new four-year deal with Chicago bulls player DeMar DeRozan, 32. The star athlete is said to actually be the face of future Kobe Bryant sneakers for the Nike signature line.

According to reports, after the news broke, the late NBA star’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, denied reports that DeMar DeRozan would be the face of her late husband’s iconic line. In a now-deleted Instagram post, the 40-year-old public figure reacted to the reports that the Chicago Bulls power forward would be the face of the Kobe Bryant line. Vanessa Bryant responded via IG comment and wrote,
“False. He is not the face of the Kobe line. No one is.”

Reportedly, DeMar DeRozan has always worn Kobe sneakers and the late Laker’s legend was his idol. Bryant allegedly deemed the report as “misinformation” in a separate comment and said,
“LOVE that he’s a Kobe supporter but the caption is false. It’s misinformation. Only Kobe is the face of his line. If that changes in the future, then I’m sure Nike and I will release a statement announcing it.”
Bryant and Nike came to an agreement after struggling to agree on a contract extension to continue the Kobe Bryant line. The Bryant estate renewed their partnership with Nike earlier this year.

On January 26, 2020, the 41-year-old pro basketball player, the couple’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, and seven others tragically died when the helicopter they were aboard on crashed in Calabasas, California.
