Jay-Z Wins Lawsuit Against Perfume Company Parlux, Brand Ordered To Pay Rapper $6 Million In Back Royalties For ‘Gold Jay Z’ Fragrance

Money is definitely in the air, and Jay-Z is smelling every bit of it!

According to reports, a Manhattan judge recently ordered Jay-Z’s ex-cologne manufacturer, Parlux, to grant him nearly $7 million in unpaid royalties.

The ruling follows Parlux’s 2016 lawsuit against Jay-Z, where they accused the “Empire State of Mind” lyricist of not holding up his end of the bargain with his fragrance, Gold Jay Z, which was released in 2013.

Allegedly, Jay-Z broke the contractual agreement by refusing to participate in the promotional appearances for the product, and as a result, the profits tanked tremendously. Parlux went after the rapper for about $68 million in damages, but Jay-Z countersued for over $2 million that he claimed was owed to him.

Parlux representative Anthony Viola told the courts:

“Parlux invested $29 million into that venture. It upheld its end of the bargain. The defendants didn’t uphold their end of the bargain. If the defendants had fulfilled the contract, if they have upheld their end of the bargain, Parlux would have had a runaway success. We would have netter $67.6 million in net profits.”

Last year, after a lengthy legal battle, the jury came to the conclusion that neither party was liable to cough up any amount of coins, due to their attorneys’ failure to prove each case.

However, after a run through the appeals court in February, Justice Andrew Borrok just decreed the company to hand Jay-Z a grand total of $6.78 million in royalties. And, yes, that includes interest fees, too.

When asked for comment, Alex Spiro, the New York rhymer’s lawyer said:

“We’ve been rewarded and will be receiving the money as we should.”

Well, it’s safe to say, a check has never been a problem for Hov.
