Nicki Minaj & Latto Argue On Twitter Amid The Grammys Classifying Nicki’s Single “Super Freaky Girl’ As Pop + Latto Releases Their Private Phone Conversation

Nicki Minaj and Latto have gotten into a heated exchange on Twitter!

On Thursday night (Oct. 13), the two rappers began trading insults on Twitter after it was reported that Nicki Minaj’s hit single, “Super Freaky Girl,” would not be considered for any rap categories at the 2023 Grammy Awards, but instead would be categorized as Pop. On the other hand, it is currently being reported that Latto’s hit song, “Big Energy,” has been submitted for consideration in at least one Grammy rap category. Nicki Minaj was displeased by this announcement and took to social media to vent to her followers.

In her opinion, if “Super Freaky Girl” wasn’t going to be considered for any rap categories, neither should Latto’s “Big Energy.”

Nicki tweeted:

“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight”

Earlier that day, it was announced that Latto had received multiple American Music Awards nominations, including “Big Energy” for Favorite Hip-Hop Song. Shortly after Nicki Minaj voiced her opinion about her gripe with the Grammy’s, Latto seemingly responded to the conversation, saying,

“Damn I can’t win for losing… all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”

Apparently, the two rappers attempted to discuss things privately, however the private conversation boiled over into a public debate. Minaj first posted a screenshot of an apparent text message Latto had sent her, which Nicki captioned it by calling Latto a “Karen” and “scratch off.” Nicki said,

“This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w|her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair…but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the black woman she called her biggest inspiration.”

Latto then confirmed Nicki’s tweet was about her. She called out the New York rapper for taking their private argument to the internet. Latto wrote:

“1st of all I texted u cause I didn’t wanna do the internet sht w sum1 I looked up to. Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off.”

She then followed that up by calling Nicki Minaj a bully.

“I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm. You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully @NICKIMINAJ.”

Nicki wasn’t too fond of Latto’s jab at her age, to which she responded by taking a shot at Latto being 23-years-old. In a quote tweet she said:

“All this time I thought you was at least 35.”

Minaj later fired another shot at Latto, saying the “It’s Givin” rapper was age-shaming. She brought up Latto’s first-week sales for her recent album, which were reportedly 24,000 total units. She wrote:

“You sold 20K right? Mad u flopped. That’s why u rlly mad.”

She then accused Latto of having a ghost writer and using Nicki Minaj and her fan base.

“Who wanna hear the reference tracks of scratch off ghost writers rapping her bars????? she used me & the Barbz in every interview until that album sold double wood now she wiping that spray tan off & being a Karen. They black when it’s beneficial chi.”

The two proceeded to outline their sides of the story, with a slew of screenshots and insults. In Nicki’s “story in 5 parts,” she continued calling Latto a Karen “who blames others for her album flopping,” saying “every dm from scratch off is about a feature” and that the 777 artist “feels she has pull behind the scenes w|a few diff white men (won’t name right now).”

Latto said Nicki has been

“literally fishing for a reason to backup being a bully” and is “so meticulous w her shade so she can twist it later and act like it wasn’t about you.”

“I literally named u as my dream collab multiple times in multiple interviews…like I told u otp I looked up to u…u still never answered my question about where the random shade started coming from. With all this being said this wasn’t JUST about a Grammy category. U being funny bringing me up to defend ur case knowing our last convo didn’t end on good terms. U literally told me I’m not ‘flourishing’ and no one cares about my ‘little song.’”

Sharing yet another example of what she considered as a sub from the “Super Bass” rapper, Latto took a low blow, calling Nicki Minaj a grandmother and bringing up her husband Kenneth Petty and brother Jelani Maraj’s checkered pasts, including convictions and/or allegations of sex crimes.

“Super freaky grandma is married AND related to fucking rapists,” the rapper tweeted. “You ain’t gone bully me BITCH! My idol turned rival now u hating!”

Nicki wasted no time to fire back at Latto saying “didn’t care about rape when she was begging for features,” and also “didn’t care” about allegations against Kodak Black or Dr. Luke. She said:

“News Flash scratch off. I’ve never raped anyone. I’ve inspired millions. You’re one of them BOZO.”

The Twitter battle concluded with Latto sharing audio of a phone conversation with Nicki where she tried to explain that she never showed animosity toward the Young Money rapper. Nicki refused to back down from her stance as well. Latto captioned the post:

“Lemme specify I’m sorry. Im delusional for saying ‘we’re’ (newer female rappers) are flourishing & u said no one cares about my little song LYRICS my bad. FYI I only recorded cause I KNOW who tf I’m playing wit #40yroldbully.”

Nicki Minaj has since erased all her tweets about Latto.
