Akon Claims Plies Stole Hit Song ‘I Wanna Love You,’ Which Was Initially Meant For Trick Daddy: He Put The Verses On There & Leaked The Record

Plies played “finders keepers” after getting a hold of a banger written by Akon.

In a recent interview with Sway, Akon reminisced on his hit record initially entitled “I Wanna F*ck You,” sharing that Plies got his hands on it even though it was written for  Trick Daddy. After hearing it, Akon’s little brother insisted that he keep the record for himself, but he wanted to be a man of his word. Akon, born Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, shared:

“I wrote this record called ‘I Wanna F*ck You.’ It was originally supposed to be for Trick Daddy. This is what’s crazy…”

The 49-year-old continued:

“So I write the record. I said ‘oh this gon’ be crazy!’ Emailed it to him. My little brother Boo comes in the room. He hears the record. ‘N*gga you crazy? You ain’t giving up this record!’ I said ‘Boo, trust me, this record we good, I could make more.’ He said ‘Kon. Listen bro. Hit records, I get it, you a hitmaker but certain records you just don’t give away. You just don’t.’ I said ‘look I already gave the n*gga my word, I’m sending it out.’”

He added:

“I had already sent the record out. Trick is on the road at this point. The record went to the ‘Slip n Slide’ email. Plies picked the record up.”

The Missouri native claimed:

“Plies heard it up top but it wasn’t his. It didn’t matter. Plies took his voice. I used to always send my tracks with my chorus already on it. So all he had to do was put verses. He put the verses on there. Leaked the record. The record becomes the biggest record in Florida satellite radio!”

Akon’s song “I Wanna Love You” was released back in October of 2006 on his second studio album “Konvicted.” This was the Senegalese singer’s first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. The track, originally titled “I Wanna F*ck You,” had Akon as a featured artist and was performed by Florida rapper Plies, until Plies’ verse was replaced by Snoop Dogg with his name removed from the writers’ credits. Los Angeles rapper Snoop Dogg featured the song on his eighth studio album “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment.” In 2008 “I Wanna Love You” was nominated for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” at the 50th Grammy Award ceremony.
