Brandy Wants Judge To Deny Ex-Housekeeper’s Request For Additional $87K To Cover Legal Fees After Settling Discrimination Lawsuit: This Figure Is Excessive, Unreasonable, & Entirely Unsupported
Brandy Norwood is not here for her former housekeeper’s demand for an additional $87,000.
The Grammy-Award-winning singer — who happens to be Ray J‘s older sister — is back in court regarding a lawsuit filed by her former housekeeper. Brandy Norwood has no desire to pay Maria Elizabeth Castaneda‘s attorney fees, a request that comes after the women recently settled their discrimination lawsuit.
According to RadarOnline, a motion from Brandy Norwood‘s legal team requesting the funds be denied states:
“This figure is excessive, unreasonable, and entirely unsupported. This case was incorrectly pled on its face, poorly litigated, and settled quickly for a mere $40,000. Lipeles Law Group has further failed to adequately support any of their requested fees. Lipeles Law Group has overstated the amount of the attorneys’ fees to which it is entitled on this Motion, and should only be awarded those attorneys’ fees, if any, that the Court determines are reasonable and properly supported by admissible evidence.”

As previously reported, Castaneda claimed in her initial lawsuit that she was denied her proper wages and a meal break while working out of Brandy‘s Calabasas mansion from Sept. 2002 to Feb. 2022. In addition, the elderly woman claimed she was let go after Brandy told her she did not want someone so much “older” working for her.
Castaneda allegedly suffered “emotional distress” as a result, launching a $250,000 lawsuit against the singer.
“[Castaneda’s] counsel only seeks a fair recovery for the time, risk, and effort spent in representing its client and now seeks an award of attorney’s fees and costs in the amount of $87,445.89.”
However, unless the lawyers can produce evidence of the work they claim to have completed, Brandy wants the entire motion denied.
A judge has yet to rule.
