Brett Favre Reportedly Hits Dr. Umar Johnson w/ Cease & Desist For Accusing Him Of Stealing From Poor People In Mississippi

Brett Favre is threatening to sue Dr. Umar Johnson for accusing the NFL legend of stealing from the poor people of Mississippi.

Brett Favre was previously investigated for allegedly raiding his own charitable foundation to fund an athletic club at his alma mater in Mississippi. In a civil lawsuit filed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services,  Brett Favre, along with three former wrestlers and businesses, were accused of “squandering” more than $20 million from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Brett Favre, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, allegedly conspired with then-Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, former MDHS executive director John Davis, and Nancy New to divert money from the welfare program to pay for a volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi. The move came two years after the state had allegedly already spent millions of dollars in welfare money on a university volleyball arena in Favre’s favor.

In a previous statement, Favre claimed that he had no idea that a grant ($5 million) given for the construction of the center was funneled from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. In fact, he expressed that his only efforts were of goodwill.

The 53-year-old said,

“I have been unjustly smeared in the media. I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight. No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university.”

Favre proceeded to elaborate by further explaining where he thought the money had come from:

“State agencies provided the funds to Nancy New’s charity, the Mississippi Community Education Center, which then gave the funds to the University, all with the full knowledge and approval of other State agencies, including the State-wide Institute for Higher Learning, the Governor’s office, and the Attorney General’s office. I was told that the legal work to ensure that these funds could be accepted by the university was done by State attorneys and State employees.”

While Favre has reportedly repaid the money and things seem to be squared away, Dr. Umar Johnson has still publicly spoken on the matter. According to reports, Brett Favre retained a law firm to represent him in a potential defamation lawsuit against Dr. Umar.

The law firm of Kasowitz Benson Toress LLP sent a letter to Dr. Umar warning him that they are investigating

“potential legal claims against you arising from certain public statements you have made about Mr. Favre.”

The law firm also warned Dr. Umar to not destroy evidence of him speaking on Favre because they are considering suing him. Specifically, they advised him to

“preserve, and not destroy, conceal, alter or otherwise spoliate, any and all documents and information in your possession…”

The outspoken activist took to Instagram to share the letter with his followers. He wrote,

“War against black men.. Brett Favre vs.  Ifatunde…White privilege vs. Black power. “

He added,

“First they came for Kanye, then Kyrie, now they coming for King Kong!”
