Tom Brady Says Janet Jackson’s Wardrobe Malfunction During 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show Was ‘A Good Thing For The NFL’ Because It Brought ‘More Publicity’ To The League
Tom Brady is giving his opinion on the infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime show featuring Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
During a recent episode of his podcast, “Let’s Go,” Tom Brady was asked if the NFL players participating in the Super Bowl are able to watch the halftime show.
The NFL legend admitted that the players are usually too focused on the game and don’t have time to watch the show. Brady then mentioned Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction as an example and how he was clueless as to what took place.
Brady recalled,
“[Reporters] were asking me about that, and I couldn’t even understand what they were telling me about. They were like, ‘Did you see the halftime show?’ and I said, ‘Nah, I didn’t see anything.’ I was thinking about the game and was trying to figure out halftime adjustments.”

He added,
“It took a while for us to figure out what had gone on. That’s for the fans and not for the players.”
Tom Brady then claimed the infamous debacle was “probably a good thing for the NFL.”
He explained,
“I think, in the end, it was probably a good thing for the NFL because everyone got to talk about it, and it was just more publicity and more publicity for halftime shows. Is any publicity bad publicity? That’s what they say. So, who knows?”
In 2004 Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed together for the Super Bowl’s halftime show. At the end of their performance, something went wrong and Justin tore off a piece of Janet’s top which left her exposed to the public. The controversial event, unfortunately, led to a lot of backlash for Janet.

Janet Jackson
In 2021, Justin Timberlake issued a public apology to Janet Jackson for the way he handled the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. He also issued an apology to his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears as well. In a lengthy Instagram post, he wrote,
“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”
“The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this … I have not been perfect in navigating all of this throughout my career. I know this apology is a first step and doesn’t absolve the past.”

Justin Timberlake
During a previous interview, Janet Jackson’s brothers, Marlon, Tito, and Jackie Jackson said they appreciated Timberlake’s apology but are ready to move on.
“You know, it takes a man to step up and do that, so we do thank him for doing that..But we’d like to move forward because that was out there, the negativity about it. But, as they say in the old days, as long as they’re talking about you, good or bad, you’re still in the public’s eye.”
They added,
“We thank you, Justin, for what you did.”
